Free Web-based GUI test automation tools

A user asks, "Can you suggest a list of freeware tools for automated testing of Web-based GUI applications?" Mike Kelly provides some resources to get you started.

Can you suggest a list of freeware tools for automated testing of Web-based GUI applications?
My current favorites are Watir and Selenium, but there are many options out there for free Web-based GUI testing tools. The first place to start is opensourcetesting.org. If you have specific technology constraints, you might need to do a bit more research, but assuming what you're testing runs in a browser, and it isn't a brand-new technology that no one else is using yet, you should be able to find something relatively quickly.

I like Selenium for web based testing. It is pretty flexible and can suit different levels of technical ability.
