Security tools fall in two main categories. The first group of tools is used to examine the environment. Those types of tools include port scanners and vulnerability scanners. The second group of tools is used to examine for specific application vulnerabilities. Those can include the application client, browsers, spiders, decompilers, obfuscators, source code scanners, debug proxies, brute force tools, fuzzers, sniffers and packet generators.
