WiKID Systems Inc. has released a WiKID Firefox extension, an authentication tool for WiKID-enabled Web sites.

It is an authentication tool that uses public-key encryption to request and receive one-time passcodes from within Firefox. Firefox 1.5+ and the Java plug-in are required.

The extension uses semantic Web technology. When on a WiKID-enabled Web site, a WiKID icon will appear in the lower right status bar. Clicking it invokes key generation for first-time users, the site/domain registration process for unregistered users, or a PIN entry box for registered users. Once the PIN is entered, the one-time passcode is automatically entered into the password field.

The company says the WiKID token supports multiple WiKID domains, eliminating the need for a token "keychain."

This version is beta, according to the company. Mutual/host authentication and domain deletion are coming. The private keys are stored in WiKIDToken.wkd in your Firefox profile directory.

There have also been a number of bug fixes on the server. Users are advised that if you have a build below 29, to test the latest.

The WiKID Firefox extension can be downloaded from the sourceforge site along with the server:

If you prefer to not set up a server, you can test it on the company's extranet here:
