Serena Software's project and portfolio management tool will be one of three solutions offered via Software as a Service this year. Serena Mariner, Serena Business Mashups and the company's upcoming Agile solutions will all be available on-demand during the year.
First out of the gate will be Serena Mariner. Mariner provides visibility into project status and metrics to ensure the right people are on the right projects at the right time, ultimately delivering more value to the business.
"Enterprise software needs to embrace the see, try and buy mentality that we have all become accustomed to on the Web," said Serena CEO Jeremy Burton. "Serena will take it one step further by working closely with individual business users to help them be successful with our on-demand productivity services."
More than offering such on-demand software, Serena is "walking the 'on demand' walk and has successfully implemented a variety of on-demand system. Some of those include OpSource for managed hosting, MarketBright for marketing automation solutions and Salesforce.com for sales force optimization.
A key part of Serena's business strategy is to deliver and consume these services on demand, avoiding the cost and complexity of on-premise software, the company said.
