At JavaOne in San Francisco this week, Sun Microsystem's Java products weren't the only new kids in the exhibit hall. A slew of third-party Java-centric products and services were announced, and the show floor was crowded. In this article, SearchSoftwareQuality.com's Jan Stafford guides a tour of JavaOne's booths. Altova tackles HL7 and XBRL compliance

Altova's new MapForce Version 2009 automates conversion of legacy EDI files or data to the standard Health Level Seven (HL7) and Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) formats. It can be used as a standalone tool or as part of core product Altova MissionKit , said Liz Andrews, technical marketing manager for Beverly, Mass.-based Altova. In this video, she talks about benefits of MapForce v2009 and MissionKit.

Appistry CloudIQ Manager furthers app, services control

Appistry CloudIQ Manager is the enhanced management arm of CloudIQ Platform v4.0 for public and private clouds. In this video, Sam Charrington talks about the new product's deployment and operational features. He is product management vice president for Appistry (St. Louis, MO).

Canoo Engineering's quick-build RIA, SaaS and cloud system

In the JavaOne exhibit hall, the Java Utopia Area spotlighted new technology companies and products, such as Canoo's UltraLightClient for quick builds of Rich Internet Applications (RIAs), as well as Software as a Service (SaaS) and cloud computing environments. Based in Basel, Switzerland, Canoo provides both products and consulting services for development of Web and mobile applications. Roland Zigerli, marketing director, outlined Canoo's mission and use case scenarios in this short interview.

Electric Cloud speeds up mobile software builds High on placing on the Red Herring 100 North America list on May 28, Dax Fahring showed what Electric Cloud's software production/build management (SPM) products can do at JavaOne. Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Electric Cloud's latest release adds Android software support to its roster of supported major mobile operating systems. Fahring, senior product manager, describes Electric Cloud's uses in this video.

Fiorano Software's SOA approach to integration, messaging Fiorano's Sandy Agarwal showed how a peer-to-peer Enterprise Service bus foundation enables real-time coordination and integration of business assets. Agarwal, director of business development, noted that Fiorano's technology recently placed in Gartner's Magic Quandrant of visionary application infrastructure products.

Perforce Software's Java-friendlier configuration management tools

Software engineer Hamish Reid demonstrated current Perforce Software configuration management tools at JavaOne, but he also talked about upcoming Java-friendlier releases of tools in the Perforce Software Configuration Management System. In this video, Reid – the project leader on the Java enhancements – describes those new Java support features and how development teams can use them.

ScaleOut is all about distributed caching ScaleOut Software's CEO William Bain demonstrated ScaleOut StateServer's new extensions, which add an object browser to it's the StateServer distributed caching software. The new StateServer release, version 4.1, helps developers manage distributed caches.

JavaRebel gives quick views of code changes ZeroTurnaround's David Booth, speaking in the video below, demonstrated and gave away a few copies of the JVN plugin JavaRebel at JavaOne. JavaRebel lets developers see code changes as they are made without having to redeploy an application or do a container restart. The capability doesn't exist in Java today. The new release from Tartu, Estonia-based ZeroTurnaround is JavaRebel 2.0.1, which includes bugfixes and updates bundled plugins to the latest versions.
